But if you didn’t use your EBT card to pay for them, you may want to start. We’ll show you how.
Although grocery delivery was somewhat new at the time, the pandemic made it explode in popularity. Not only did many people want to stay home to social distance, but they also wanted to save money on gas and time shopping in stores. Thanks to grocery delivery services, they could get the best of both worlds.
While you’re probably aware that grocery delivery exists, you may not know that you can use your SNAP benefits to pay for it. This is excellent news if you’re tired of always shopping in person or you want to cut down on driving due to ridiculously expensive gas prices.
How can you use your food stamps to get groceries delivered to your door? Let’s take a look at the details.
Stores That Accept EBT For Grocery Delivery
Walmart
If you have an EBT card, it comes as no surprise that you can use it at Walmart to buy eligible items. But Walmart recently upped its game and announced that it would accept EBT payments for its grocery delivery service.
Unfortunately, Walmart is not accepting EBT for deliveries in all states. If you live in Montana, Louisiana, Maine, Arkansas, or Alaska, you’re out of luck at this time. But keep checking, as that could change in the future. If you live in the other states, however, you should be good to go.
It’s worth noting that Walmart, like other places, won’t accept EBT payments for any actual delivery fees. Instead, you can use your EBT card to pay for the eligible groceries and then use another form of payment for the delivery fees and tips. Also, if you can’t use EBT for delivery in your state, you can probably still use it for online orders with in-store pickup.
Amazon
If you regularly shop on Amazon, you may have noticed something as of late. Beneath the prices of certain items, you can now see “SNAP EBT eligible.” In other words, those items can be purchased on Amazon.com with your EBT card.
While that’s great, this is even better: Amazon announced you can use EBT and even P-EBT (Pandemic EBT) to purchase items for delivery in all states except Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, and Louisiana.
Instacart
It’s tough to mention grocery delivery without talking about Instacart. It’s one of the most well-known grocery delivery services out there, and you can use it to order groceries with EBT from these stores: ALDI, Food Lion, FoodMaxx, Hannaford, Lucky Supermarkets, Market 32, Market Bistro, Piggly Wiggly, Price Chopper, Publix, Save Mart.
Since your mileage may vary according to location, contact Instacart before placing an order to make sure that you can use EBT at your desired store. And to avoid delivery costs, Instacart is offering free deliveries for EBT cardholders on your first three orders over $35.
